Natural disasters and humanitarian emergencies often disrupt education long before they disrupt examinations or academic calendars. Floods, earthquakes, fires, and conflicts frequently destroy school buildings, displace families, and force children into temporary shelters where formal
learning becomes impossible. In such moments, education is usually paused indefinitely, leaving children idle, vulnerable, and at risk of permanently dropping out of school. For example, during seasonal flooding in low-lying rural communities, schools are often submerged for weeks or months. Children remain at home or in temporary camps with no access to structured learning.
The Back-to-School Supply Drive equips children with age- and grade-appropriate school bags filled with essential learning materials for a school term or academic year. Each bag is carefully prepared to support students’ academic needs and confidence in the classroom. As part of this initiative, the program also provides emergency education support, The School in a Bag Initiative, for children affected by crises, ensuring they can continue learning despite disruptions. By enabling learning to continue outside traditional classrooms, the program ensures that children do not fall behind academically during crises. It protects learning continuity, supports emotional resilience, and reinforces the principle that education must not stop in the face of emergencies.
