A global learning crisis persists even among children who attend school. An estimated 617 million children and adolescents worldwide are not achieving minimum proficiency in reading and mathematics (UNESCO Institute for Statistics, 2018). This challenge is particularly evident in underserved communities where access to quality learning resources is limited or nonexistent.
In many of these communities, the absence of books, libraries, and digital tools restricts students’ ability to develop literacy, research, and technology skills that are essential for modern learning. Without exposure to these resources, children are often unable to fully engage with their education or build the competencies needed to thrive academically and in the future workforce.
The Books and Tech on the Move Project delivers portable boxes filled with books and laptops to schools and communities with limited learning resources. These boxes are carefully designed for flexible use across multiple locations, making them suitable for schools, community centres, and other learning environments.
By providing access to reading materials and digital learning tools, the program helps bridge literacy and technology gaps while expanding opportunities for academic growth. Through this initiative, children are introduced to engaging educational resources that strengthen learning outcomes, build confidence, and foster curiosity and creativity.
